My Dream Come True

When I was a little guy around 3 years old, I watched what probably was a VHS copy of The Love Bug. I connected with that story and the characters reminded me of family members. When I was 8 years old, I told my mother, “I’m gonna save up for a Herbie!”. For years I’ve worked hard and saved, BARELY treating myself haha. I bought my first car at 15. It wasn’t a Herbie though. He was a Chrysler named Vinny. Afterwards I felt defeated. And I also knew about someone in my town who bought a Beetle before me haha. If that doesn’t spell determination, I don’t know what does.
I started saving AGAIN, DOUBLED my previous amount, and came back with my dream. 24 days after my 18th birthday, me and my father brought home a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle with ZERO through rust. We picked him up from a beautiful east WI farm. Since then, I’ve been improving the car. And gaining more confidence too, working on him myself. That little car changed my life. Even when I didn’t have him, I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t start saving. This car helps me deal with personal problems, and me and Herbie are in this together. After all these years, it turns out for the best things in life, good things will come to those who wait.
