I fell in love with Beetles when I married a gal with one. She threw a valve head through a piston and I fell in love with how easy they were to work on. After having several sedans, and even an oval, my buddy found me a 1963 convertible. It had fenders welded to the body, a hole in the floor, rusted bumper brackets, mice nest in the wiring harness, and the top was rotten, the car was full of leaves. I put a new floor, heater channels, new top, upholstery and rebuilt the 40 hp motor. I get more "Thumbs Up" every day I take it for a cruise. I like being able to do nearly all the maintenance on it. I found an owner's service manual for VW 1200 by Verlag Delius + Klasing that has such good diagrams and instructions. I enjoy adjusting my own valves, changing my own oil, even if I am already 75 years old. I've owned Beetles for over 50 years.
