I went to Funfest for Air-Cooled VW in Effingham, Illinois June 5-7, 2015. I simply had too much fun!
Right off the bat, I met Bruce Meyers, creator of the Meyers Manx Dune Buggy. He is a great man and shared many good stories. He spent a great deal of time hanging out with our club.
I won second place in the Exhaust Wars Sound Off. I could not contain my excitement and found myself standing on the roof of my Dune Buggy celebrating the victory!
Later the same day, I received first place in the Low Speed Slalom. I did not think the day could get any better, but then I found out I won a very high quality engine stand for winning the low speed slalom!
Then, I found out Bruce Meyers was going on the Shuffle to Buffalo Cruise, just 10 miles from my hometown. The following week, the Meyers Manx Club and some of us Buggy-Meisters cruised together back to Effingham, Illinois. The trip was nearly 350 miles.
All of this would not have been possible without my buggy friends. A few years ago, I started talking to Marty Gains and from there it just blew up into a whole family. I have met so many Volkswagen friends and family since I meeting Marty. I am extremely grateful.
A thank you is just not enough for the good time I had with my buggy friends/family. Funfest for Air-Cooled VW was the most fun I have had in a quite a while. As Bruce Myers told me, “The journey is not over, it is just beginning.”
