I got out of the Navy in 1991 and bought a 1965 Volkswagen Kombi Standard in Velvet Green. I owned it as a daily driver and camped in it several times with my kid brother several times in Yosemiti!! In 1995, I hit black ice near Lake Tahoe and rolled my Bus, absolutely destroying it!?? Fast forward 30 years and a 1965 Kombi Standard in Velvet Green shows up on Facebook Marketplace!! Told the wife I would regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t get it and she said YES!! Brought it back to Arizona from Arkansas and was driving around my neighborhood when two kids waved at me, so I had to wave back. One of the kids yelled “Your car looks like a Pickle!” I ran with it and everyone in the Arizona VW scene knows my Bus as the Pickle. I am the third owner, it just turned 60 on October 8th, and I have stacks of receipts dating back to 1965 including the original window sticker and paper license plate from the dealership!
