A Bay Named Opa

It started back when I was a little kid in the 80s. The first time I saw a Bay Window Bus, I knew I wanted one.

While stationed in California during my time in the Marine Corps, the urge grew year after year. When my tour was up, I moved back home to Iowa. I looked at many for sale as the years passed and I never felt I had found "the one." Finally, one night I came across a classified advertisement for one close to my house, so I went to look at it. As soon as I laid my eyes on it, I knew it was the one. A 1979 Westfalia.

I’ve had my share of breakdowns and, with guidance from the internet, trial and error, and with the advice and help of friends and family, I have kept my Bay Window on the road. He has come a long way from when we first got him. He is road worthy and reliable first and foremost. I have no hesitation of going wherever the road takes us. Breakdowns don't worry me, as they can happen to anyone. Hop in and go...

He is named "Opa," after my Grandfather, who passed away shortly before we purchased him. My grandfather had a philosophy of "Never Stop Loving....no matter what." And that's my philosophy towards life and towards our Bay. It never stops loving us and we never stop loving it.
