My story starts in 2006. I was 5 and just saw Herbie Fully Loaded. From then on I was OBSESSED with Volkswagens, especially Beetles. I had the soundtrack on CD. I played it so much I wore it out! Eventually in high school I thought a microbus would more suit me. I had my eyes set on getting a 1971 Sunroof bus but fate had other plans. I promised myself I would own a VW Bus as my first car. Few years passed and tireless searching yielded nothing in my limited price. Then opportunity walks through my door! My first Bus (and general car) was a 1978 standard Kombi that was originally Dakota Beige over Panama Brown but was mostly white with rust and chunks of a wrap for a crab cake company of all things when I purchased it. It was rusted basically everywhere but it ran. I bought it and ended up working on it for 6 months before a fuel fire burnt it to the ground. Luckily I was quick to find another 1978! Now I'm the proud owner of my 1978 VW Bus with 71,000 miles and counting along with a 1969 Karmann Ghia as a side project.
